White Lodge’s nurturing environment allows each child to develop at his or her own pace, and we put great focus on our children’s emotional well-being as well as academic success. The Kindergarten stage is very important as children prepare for bigger challenges after graduation. As such, White Lodge wants to ensure each child has the basic skills required for their next school placement.
White Lodge educators prepare a PGIS (Proposed Goals for Individual Student) educational plan for each student. Children have age-appropriate goals for each area of learning. Portfolios reflect and monitor the main areas of development according to the White Lodge curriculum.
Jolly Phonics
The Kindergarten stage completes the Jolly Phonics programme from levels four to seven. Children learn all the letters of the alphabet, as well as the forty-two main sounds of the English language.
Jolly Grammar
An extension of the Jolly Phonics programme, the Jolly Grammar programme teaches spelling and the rudiments of grammar. Children improve their vocabulary and comprehension with Jolly workbooks, spelling books, and a creative writing journal.
GINN Reading
Before graduating, children will be introduced to levels two to four of the GINN reading programme. At this stage, we introduce GINN workbooks, and focus on speaking and listening skills; phonics; spelling; comprehension; and prediction. Keen readers can complete up to level six, which is equivalent to an eight-year-old reading level!
Growing with Mathematics
In Kindergarten, children move through levels one to twenty-four of the Growing with Mathematics programme. This programme covers concepts such as sorting, matching, patterning, addition, and subtraction. Children will also learn to count to 100. We provide both hands-on and concrete learning opportunities to enhance children’s math skills.
Mandarin
At the end of the kindergarten level the children will have had 4 years of Mandarin lessons and will have been equipped with skills to communicate effectively at their next local school placement.
Bahasa Malaysia
At this stage the children should be able to understand enough of the language to be able to communicate with others in simple sentences.
Pre-Primary Preparation Programme
Each year from July to December, White Lodge prepares the Kindergarten class for their next step in education. Children experience teaching styles similar to those from local schools, and we reinforce their independence and social skills. Our goal is to ensure a smooth and successful transition to local schools.
