Improving education standards
Jayne Nadarajoo, our founding director, is also a parent. Her two children, Saktish and Kenisha, were in school, and Jayne saw first-hand how childhood education focused on academic excellence instead of long-term intellectual and emotional growth. Jayne was not satisfied with this stifling learning environment. So, armed with ten years of experience in early childhood care, she started her own kindergarten.
Our Bukit Timah centre in Singapore opened on 15 July, 1999, with three students, two teachers, and a desire to improve early childhood education in Singapore. White Lodge uses learning objectives from a variety of educators, including High Scope, Reggio Emilia, and Howard Gardner. We are committed to maintaining a high teacher to child ratio, and our teachers are well-trained locals and expatriates. We teach 47 weeks of the year with a comprehensive Primary Years curriculum, and we encourage open communication and parent involvement.
Since we began in 1999, over 8,000 children have come through our doors, learning and growing into wise and kind young people.
“We inspire children to have dreams here at White Lodge. We tell the children to go for it, that nothing is impossible.” – Jayne Nadarajoo, Director
